The Stag at Walton is a private, independent pub operated by husband and wife team Stephen & Lisa Hammersley.

Steve & Lisa have a career’s worth of hospitality management experience ranging from 5 star hotels to high volume fast food. Along with a superb team at the pub, this experience is channeled into our pub being the best it can be. We are never perfect but we are always looking to do better, with the customer always at the front of our minds.

Meet The Team.

Every now and again we’ll take the opportunity to introduce you to some of our team. As this is the first time, we thought we’d better start with the bosses.

Steve Hammersley - The Boss

Name: Steve Hammersley - The Boss

Age: 50

Length of time at the pub: 5 years, give or take.

Favourite thing about working here:

There's so much; I work with great people and have great customers. Making beer is really good thing to do. Ultimately though, being your own boss is tough to beat.

Most challenging thing about working here:

Its pretty full on. 7 days a week. The phone doesn't care if you're having a quiet moment to yourself. Sometimes you can get cabin fever. We do our best to get away when we can just to preserve the sanity.

Favourite Dish on the menu: The mashed potato is amazing. The kitchen make it with so much butter and double cream.

Favourite Drink on the menu: Well I have to say our own beer of course, but I'm also very partial to Bloom Gin and Heineken.

When i'm not working I like to:

Sleep. As busy as everyone else with family life. I manage to get out on my bike just enough to stop the rust from building up.

Lisa Hammersley - The Real Boss

Name: Lisa Hammersley - The Real Boss

Age: Hmmmmm

Length of time at the pub: Nearly 5 years too

Favourite thing about working here:

It's all ours. If we do well, it's down to us, if we do badly we can blame someone else...no, it's down to us too. I love being in control of our lives.

Most challenging thing about working here:

I'm tired almost all of the time. Work life balance is tough with a 7 day a week operation and 2 young children.

Favourite Dish on the menu: Black Spice - the peppercorn sauce it the best ever. Sprouts. I love sprouts, can't wait until Christmas

Favourite Drink on the menu: I'm a Gin girl.

When i'm not working I like to:

I have a great circle of close friends. They are all very supportive of my job and I love spending time with them. Oh, the kids too. I spend time with the kids.
